When the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah is sighted, it marks the beginning of the most spiritually powerful 10 days of the Islamic calendar. These are the days in which:
Hajj takes place.
Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated.
Qurbani (sacrifice) is offered.
Allah swears by these days in the Qur'an:
"By the ten nights..." – Surah Al-Fajr (89:2)
From: Maghrib on 1st Dhul Hijjah
To: Asr on 13th Dhul Hijjah
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah, Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahil-hamd
Say it after every obligatory salah.
Can be recited individually, in groups, at home, in mosques.
It's a forgotten Sunnah – revive it!
If you're eligible (financially able), make niyyah (intention) for Qurbani now.
One animal per adult Muslim (goat/sheep).
A cow or camel can be shared by 7 people.
Must be done after Eid prayer on the 10th, 11th, or 12th Dhul Hijjah.
From 1st Dhul Hijjah till your Qurbani is done:
Prophet ﷺ said:
"When the ten days (of Dhul Hijjah) begin, and one intends to offer sacrifice, he should not remove anything from his hair or nails."
(Sahih Muslim)
It is to resemble those performing Hajj who are in Ihram.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days..." (Bukhari)
Actions you can do:
Tahajjud (night prayer)
Nawafil (extra prayers)
Qur’an recitation
Istighfar (seeking forgiveness)
Dhikr (remembrance)
Giving charity
Making Dua constantly
Fasting is highly encouraged in these days.
Especially the 9th Dhul Hijjah – Day of Arafah:
"Fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates sins of the past year and coming year." (Muslim)
Note: Not for those performing Hajj.
Some Surahs to focus on during these days:
Surah Al-Fajr: Because Allah swears by these days.
Surah Al-Hajj: Describes Hajj rituals and its purpose.
Surah Ikhlas, Falaq, Nas: For protection and purification.
Ayat-ul-Kursi: After each salah for protection.
These days are ideal to:
Seek forgiveness
Ask for guidance
Pray for Rizq, health, family, Ummah
Tip: Make a dua list. Read it after every salah.
Plan your Qurbani ethically (don’t delay).
Don’t show off your animal on social media for likes.
Divide meat properly:
1/3 for yourself,
1/3 for relatives,
1/3 for the needy.
| Day | Ritual/Event |
|---|---|
| 8th Dhul Hijjah | Pilgrims arrive at Mina (Ihram begins) |
| 9th (Arafah) | Stand at Arafah, most important day |
| 10th (Eid) | Sacrifice + Shaving + Tawaf Ifadah |
| 11th–13th | Rami (stoning), Tawaf Wida (farewell) |
Don’t delay takbeer or feel shy to recite it in public.
Don’t cut nails/hair if you're planning to sacrifice.
Avoid arrogance, laziness in prayer, or wasting time online.
Don’t treat Qurbani like a show — it's an act of worship.
These 10 days are your chance to rise spiritually.
Don't waste them in only shopping, selfies, or sleep.
Live these days with faith, sacrifice, and sincerity — and you’ll find Allah closer than ever.
